Re: Bear attacks

“Bear attacks are a real problem when camping in the mountains. Are there any new Android applications that could help out in the event of a bear attack?”

Response:
I don’t know about Android apps, but there is an application called Caxixi which is written for Samsung Windows Mobile phones.
During (or before) a bear attack, it is best to make loud noises in an effort to scare the bear away. With Caxixi, the user can create the sound of percussion instruments by shaking the phone. This could help scare a bear away.

Another application that could come in handy during a bear attack is an app for Windows Mobile 5 and 6 PocketPCs called ‘Dog whistle’. The sound of a dog whistle might have a calming effect on a bear because bears are in the dog family.

These are just two ideas. I’ll let you know if I think of any others.

Is the Earth really moving?

Based on all observable evidence, The Earth is completely stationary.
But according to “science”, the Earth is rotating on it’s axis at approximately 1000 mph (at the equator) while orbiting the sun at around 67,000 mph.  At the same time, the whole solar system is supposedly whizzing through the universe at speeds exceeding 400,000 mph.  Are there any Android apps that can prove or disprove the theory that The Earth is traveling at speeds exceeding 400,000 mph?  Do any apps address the issue?

2010 Winter Olympics

I am a rabid Olympics fan, especially the winter Olympics.  I enjoy watching all of the events, but figure skating is always my favorite part of the winter Olympics.  So in my view, the pinnacle of these Olympic games was Kim Yu-Na’s gold medal performance.  It was probably the best figure skating I’ve ever seen.  Her short program was my favorite part.

On a related note, I should mention that I enjoy ice skating and can skate backwards.

This is cool!
